The answer

For the reporting period ended 31 July 2025, iShares Core S&P 500 UCITS ETF reported excess reportable income of USD 6.701337 per unit. The income is treated as received on 31 January 2026, which falls in the 2025/26 tax year, and is taxed as a dividend. At the Bank of England spot rate for that date (USD 1.3720 to the pound, published 30 January 2026), that is £4.8844 per unit.

What to do with it

If you held the fund in a general investment account on 31 July 2025, multiply the units you held that day by £4.8844. For example, 100 units is £488.44. Declare it on your 2025/26 return: SA106 (Foreign), under dividends from foreign companies, or SA100 page TR3 box 6 when your total foreign dividends are £500 or less. Then add the same £488.44 to the fund's allowable cost, so the income is not taxed a second time as gain when you sell. Units held inside an ISA or a pension have nothing to declare.

The working

The reporting period ran to 31 July 2025. Under regulation 94 of the Offshore Funds (Tax) Regulations 2009, the excess of the fund's reportable income over what it distributed is treated as an additional distribution made six months after the period end, on 31 January 2026, to whoever held the units at the period end. The issuer publishes the figure in USD; it is converted at the Bank of England's daily spot rate against sterling for the distribution date (USD 1.3720, series XUDLUSS, published 30 January 2026). The fund is not a bond fund under regulation 95, so the amount is taxed as a dividend. Regulation 99 adds the amount to the acquisition cost for capital gains; HMRC helpsheet HS284 section 6 says the same for notional distributions on accumulation units.

Reporting status On the list

On HMRC's approved offshore reporting funds list, edition dated 6 October 2026 (read 13 October 2026); the issuer's HMRC reference for this share class is I0074-0041. Gains on a reporting fund are capital gains; the price of that status is declaring the excess above.
