The answer

For the reporting period ended 30 June 2025, Vanguard Global Aggregate Bond UCITS ETF reported excess reportable income of £0.824767 per unit for this sterling-hedged share class. The income is treated as received on 31 December 2025, which falls in the 2025/26 tax year, and is taxed as interest, because the issuer reports the fund as holding more than 60 per cent in interest-bearing assets.

What to do with it

If you held the fund in a general investment account on 30 June 2025, multiply the units you held that day by £0.8248. For example, 100 units is £82.48. Declare it on your 2025/26 return: SA106 (Foreign), under interest and other income from overseas savings, or SA100 page TR3 box 3 when your total untaxed foreign interest is £2,000 or less. Then add the same £82.48 to the fund's allowable cost, so the income is not taxed a second time as gain when you sell. Units held inside an ISA or a pension have nothing to declare.

The working

The reporting period ran to 30 June 2025. Under regulation 94 of the Offshore Funds (Tax) Regulations 2009, the excess of the fund's reportable income over what it distributed is treated as an additional distribution made six months after the period end, on 31 December 2025, to whoever held the units at the period end. Because the issuer reports the fund as a bond fund (more than 60 per cent in interest-bearing assets, regulation 95), the amount is taxed as interest. Regulation 99 adds the amount to the acquisition cost for capital gains; HMRC helpsheet HS284 section 6 says the same for notional distributions on accumulation units.

Reporting status On the list

On HMRC's approved offshore reporting funds list, edition dated 6 October 2026 (read 13 October 2026); the issuer's HMRC reference for this share class is V0029-0036. Gains on a reporting fund are capital gains; the price of that status is declaring the excess above.
